Brief report on the race:

Peter Norris

HAVING won the Modern Hotels Jersey Half Marathon last year, Harrow runner Peter Norris (25) came back to the Island to win it again yesterday morning.

‘Although 1hr 13.44 was a PB, I wanted to run it faster,’ he said. ‘I was aiming for the 70 minute mark, hoping to begin the race in the company of other runners, but when I turned around after seven or eight miles from the start I discovered I was on my own.

The first woman home was ersey’s Sarah Davis, who was glad that there had not been a gale force wind – like last year – and that the Island’s top distance runner Jo Gorrod had not entered.

‘’If she had been in the race I would have come nowhere,’ she said. ‘I don’t do that many races, although I enjoyed running along the coast. It’s a very pretty route to run. But in this race, as in others, I just run for myself. I was surprised to come first but I didn’t run to win the race. Me? I’m just a runner, someone who likes to run.’

****Important Message from the Road & Cross Country Committee****

As from today 21.09.08 it has been decided that it will not be permitted to run whilst wearing any kind of audio equipment when competing in any Jersey Spartan AC event.  This includes the Half Marathon, Spring and Autumn 10k's and all club road and cross country races. This is mainly on Health and Safety grounds as we believe that it makes things more dangerous for the user as cars, bikes etc. can't be heard.  Also, they could be used for pacing/motivation/alleviating boredom and it's the runner's job to do those things. 'UK Athletics have confirmed that they support us in this decision'. 'Please note that anyone not adhering to this rule will be disqualified and their result will not be recorded.'
